Claude brand tracking: see how Anthropic's Claude mentions your brand
Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Claude Opus 4.8 queried daily through the Anthropic API.
- Which project management tools would you recommend for a remote engineering team?
- Compare [your brand] and [competitor] for a startup.
- What is [your brand] and who is it best for?
- Suggest vendors for [B2B service] and explain the trade-offs.
- What should I check before choosing a [product category]?
How Claude builds its answers
- 01Claude can search the web inside the Claude apps. Anthropic's support pages describe web search as suited to straightforward factual queries, and describe a separate Research feature that combines several sources and attributes them.
- 02GeoGen queries Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Claude Opus 4.8 directly through the model API, so tracked answers reflect the models themselves, which can differ from a consumer chat with search switched on.
- 03Where a Claude answer rests on training knowledge, it has a cut-off date and can miss recent launches or rebrands.
- 04Claude is widely used inside developer tools, coding assistants and enterprise workflows, so its view of a brand can reach buyers who never open a search engine.
- 05Anthropic's support article did not specify how Claude chooses when to search or how it ranks sources, so those mechanics are unconfirmed.
What GeoGen measures in Claude
- Visibility
- The share of Claude answers that mention your brand, per model.
- Average position
- Where your brand appears in recommendations and comparisons.
- Sentiment
- A 0-100 tone score; Claude tends to hedge, so watch the qualifiers it attaches.
- Competitors
- Brands Claude names next to you, per prompt.
- Sonnet versus Opus
- Two models tracked separately, so you can see whether the larger model describes you differently.
Claude brand tracking measures what Anthropic’s Claude says about your company when asked for recommendations, comparisons and descriptions. GeoGen queries Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Claude Opus 4.8 through the API every day and records mentions, position, sentiment and competitors.
How does Claude decide what to say about a brand?
Two sources feed an answer: what the model learned in training, and, when search is enabled in the product, what it finds on the web. Anthropic’s support pages describe web search as best for straightforward factual queries and a separate Research feature for multi-source, attributed work. They do not say how Claude chooses when to search or how it ranks sources, so we do not claim to know.
What can be measured is the outcome. Ask the same prompts of the same models every day and the pattern of who gets named becomes clear.
Why tracking the API is still informative
Because GeoGen calls the models directly, the answers show the model’s own view of your brand with no search results to lean on. That is the baseline that shapes answers inside the many assistants, coding tools and enterprise workflows built on Claude. If the model does not know you, or files you under the wrong category, no amount of tweaking a landing page will fix that quickly. Wider, consistent coverage will.
What can a brand influence?
- Clear self-description. Plain, factual statements of what you do, for whom and at what price, repeated consistently across your site and profiles.
- Third-party corroboration. Independent reviews, documentation and press that describe you the same way.
- Crawlable pages for when search is in play.
- Freshness signals such as dated changelogs, since a training cut-off means newer products can be missing.
What GeoGen measures for Claude
Visibility, mentions, average position, sentiment and competitors, per prompt, language and country, separately for Sonnet and Opus. Premium models cost more credits (9 for Sonnet, 15 for Opus per run), so GeoGen suggests keeping the Claude prompt set focused on your highest-value questions.
Which prompts to use
Category recommendations, head-to-head comparisons, “what is [brand]” descriptions and a few buyer-constraint prompts (budget, team size, region). Add developer-flavoured prompts if your audience builds with AI tools.
How to read Sonnet and Opus results
Run both models on the same prompts and compare. If both name you, your representation is consistent. If only Opus does, the larger model knows more about you than the model most products use by default, and the gap suggests thin coverage. If neither does, your first goal is to be present at all: a clear description on your own site, in documentation and in third-party sources.
Look at sentiment qualifiers as well as mentions. Claude often adds caveats (“verify current pricing”, “best for small teams”). Those hedges reveal what the model thinks your boundaries are, and they are easy to compare week over week. If Claude consistently places you in the wrong segment, that is a content fix: say plainly who you serve.
Because each run costs 9 or 15 credits, avoid padding the prompt list. Ten well-chosen prompts per market, run daily, usually tell you more than fifty marginal ones.

Frequently asked questions
Does GeoGen track the Claude app or the API?
The API. GeoGen queries Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Claude Opus 4.8 directly. This gives a repeatable measure of what each model says, though answers inside the Claude app with web search enabled can differ.
How many credits does tracking Claude use?
Claude is a premium API engine: one run costs 9 credits for Sonnet and 15 for Opus, versus 1 credit for an engine read as a user sees it, such as ChatGPT. Choose a modest, high-value prompt set for Claude.
Why track both Sonnet and Opus?
They are different models and can disagree about brands. Sonnet is the workhorse used in many products; Opus is the larger model. Comparing them shows how stable your representation is.
Can I influence what Claude says about my brand?
Indirectly. Model knowledge comes from training data, so consistent, widely published descriptions help over time. Where Claude uses web search, crawlable and clearly written pages help. There are no guarantees, and none should be promised.
Is Claude visibility connected to MCP?
Separate topics. GeoGen has an MCP server so you can query your own visibility data from Claude and other tools, but that does not affect how Claude answers about you. For setup, see the MCP page.
